Municpal Golf Courses
Brock Park, Glenbrook Park, Hermann Park, Melrose Park, Memorial Park, Sharpstown Park, Wortham Park
The City of Houston features seven municipal golf courses, all of which offer various levels of difficulty and all worth a visit. Municipal golf courses are open year round, so you have a chance to hit the links no matter what time of the year you visit Houston. Summer season runs from the first Monday in May to the last Sunday in October while the winter season goes from the first Monday in November to the final Sunday in April. If you're a senior citizen or taking a senior along in your group, even better! Seniors don't have to pay for using the electronic golf cart during the week. (Regular fees apply on the weekend, however.)
Brock Park Golf Course is located on John Ralston Road in Houston and has been dubbed "Houston's Best Kept Secret". You'll make your way through all the twists and turns of this challenging golf course while also enjoying the spectacular scenery and design of the links. You'll pay at the entrance of the golf course, and you're required to keep your receipt with you at all times. Make sure to wear proper golf shoes or athletic shoes. Fees at Brock Park Golf Course range from $4.50 to $18.50.
Glenbrook Park Golf Course is an absolutely splendid course, complete with bridges, ponds and winding paths located south of downtown Houston. Hermann Park Golf Course is a golfer's dream with its recent renovation, ensuring that all of the beauty and challenges of golf remain pristine in the center of downtown Houston. Hit the links while the rest of the family picnics and strolls through the plush gardens and winding paths of Hermann Park's more than 400 acres. Fees are from $4.74 to $17.70.
Melrose Park Golf Course is a splendid 18 hole, 3 par course on East Canino Road. Known as "The Best 'lil ol' Golf Course in Texas", Melrose Park fees range from as little as $6.00 to $14.00.
Memorial Park Golf Course, on East Memorial Loop Drive, has attracted such famous names as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus with its spectacular 600 acres of green, lighted driving range and golf museum. It's little wonder, then, that more than 60,000 golfers a year visit Memorial Park Golf Course, named one of America's best golf courses. With its automated telephone system, you'll find it easy to schedule a tee time. Fees range from $15.00 to $32.00, and golf lessons are available.
